Five thousand years ago, the high priests of Ancient Kemet didn't just pray to the gods—they became them. Today, we begin our journey with the foundation of all manifestation: Ptah-Tatenen, the god who is the primordial mound from which all creation emerges.
Ptah-Tatenen as a God of Manifestation

When it comes to Ancient Kemetic deities, Ptah and even moreso Tatenen, aren’t usually the first or second one may mention. You’ll hear the names of Ra, Osiris, Horus, Isis, Sekhmet, Thoth, Anubis, etc. To the astute sage of Ancient Kemetic spirituality, you may have heard of Ptah. Ptah was worshipped as a creator deity from the earliest periods of Pharaonic history during the Old Kingdom in the capitol of Ancient Kemet at that time called Men-nefer (meaning Enduring and Beautiful).
The Greeks would call it Memphis.
Ptah was the protector of Memphis and is regarded as being the patron God of Craftsman. But why? It is because to the ancient Kemetic people, Ptah created the world through his very thoughts. To them, the act of creation was to be the craftsman. Meaning Ptah was the Master Craftsman. The one who manifested Kemet through the creative and imaginative power of his divine intelligence. Creation is an act of manifestation that begins in the mind.
Then there is Tatenen whose name means ‘risen Earth.’ Tatanen was also worshipped in Memphis and the surrounding area. He too was a deity associated with creation of the world, specifically Earth. Tatenen is a strong primordial representation of the Earth element because of this. It is said that Tatenen rose out of the primordial waters of Nun (more on that in a future post) and became the first solid land upon which all creation could take root. He is the mountain that pierces the chaos, the foundation upon which Ptah's divine thoughts take form. When we work with stones in our divination practice, we're not merely using objects—we're communing with the body of Tatenen himself, the primal earth that makes manifestation possible.
There is a divine pattern to creation. A code that when known and actively meditated on and worked with can unlock your ability to directly tap into the power of Ptah-Tatenen. The power of creative, intelligent manifestation.
Ancient Kemetic civilization practiced the syncretic fusion of divine powers to create composite deities. We see this in the fusion of Amun and Ra to create Amun-Ra. Ptah-Tatenen is part of the same esoteric tradition.
When Ptah merged with Tatenen, something profound occurred.
The god of thought united with the god of substance. Consciousness fused with matter. The architect became one with the building material itself.
This is the secret of manifestation that modern "law of attraction" teachings miss:
Manifestation isn't just "thinking positive thoughts and waiting for the universe to deliver." That's only half the equation—the Ptah half. You need the Tatenen half too.
Ptah = Conception (the idea, the blueprint, the vision)
Tatenen = Materialization (the substance, the form, the result)
Ptah-Tatenen = Complete Manifestation (thought and matter unified, no separation)
Most people get stuck because they work with only one side. They either:
All Ptah, no Tatenen: Endless visualization and affirmations with no grounded action or physical engagement. Dreams that never touch earth.
All Tatenen, no Ptah: Pure action with no vision or intention. Busy work that goes nowhere because there's no blueprint guiding it.
Ptah-Tatenen teaches the integration: Your thoughts must become earth. Your visions must take form. Consciousness must densify into matter. This is the complete process of manifestation and I am building a system that taps into this cosmic force.
This new system of active, dynamic divination is called Netermancy. It is divination by the Neteru.
Netermancy: The Ancient Theology of Thought Becoming Stone
Netermancy taps into the ancient spiritual stream of conscious divinity that came out of Men-nefer/Memphis beginning around 3,100 BCE. This ancient spiritual system placed Ptah as the source of creation above Atum or Ra as was the case in other mystery schools across ancient Kemet. In the Memphite Theology (one of the oldest creation myths), it was believed thar Ptah created through divine utterance:
"Ptah conceived in his heart and spoke with his tongue, and all things came into being."
Notice the sequence:
Heart (consciousness, intention, vision)
Tongue (speech, vibration, sound)
Being (manifestation, form, reality)
Manifestation has a dual nature. It is both a mental and physical process. One could say the material world is a manifestation of the mind of the Creator. That creator being Ptah according to the ancient Memphite priests of Kemet. But where does the manifestation land? On what substrate does it take form?
Tatenen.
The primordial mound. The first solid ground. The earth that received Ptah's creative word. The vibrational frequency of your intent-ladened speech needs to be received by a force that molds that potentiality into material form. In the system of Netermancy, this is the role of clay stones.
Netermancers cast clay stones as a symbolic act of the creation of the world from the mind of Ptah to the material form of Tatenen.
Without Tatenen, Ptah's words would echo in the void forever—beautiful concepts with nowhere to become real.
Without Ptah, Tatenen would be inert matter—potential with no activation, earth with no life.
Together, they are the complete manifestation engine.
This is why Ptah-Tatenen is depicted in art as a single figure—often shown with the atef crown (signifying divine authority) and standing on the primordial mound, sometimes with plants sprouting from his body (life emerging from earth through divine thought).
He is both the thinker and the thought made solid.
Ptah-Tatenen is the patron deity of netermancy. He is the divine cosmic principle of creation that powers the act of casting stones to invoke the Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Kemet in an act of creational divination.
This will be further elaborated on in future posts.
Why Working with Stones Matters
You might be wondering: "This is fascinating theology, but how does this help me?"
Here's how.
As a netermancer, every time you cast the stones of power—whether in divination, meditation, or ritual—you are working with Tatenen's body. Stones are the densest, oldest, most stable form of matter. They are earth consciousness compressed over millennia. They are substance itself.
When you form an intention and cast stones seeking divine guidance, you are enacting the Ptah-Tatenen creation process:
You conceive in your mind (Ptah) - "What forces should I invoke for this situation?"
You speak your question aloud (Ptah's tongue)
You cast the stones (releasing thought into Tatenen's substance)
The stones land in pattern (Tatenen receives and shapes the answer)
You read the pattern (consciousness interpreting matter's response)
You build a mantra (creating a new thought-form)
You speak the mantra daily (vibrating it into material reality)
Reality shifts (manifestation completes)
As a Netermancer, you’re not asking Ptah-Tatenen to tell you the future. You are being Ptah-Tatenen. You are channeling an ancient power source that was fed with ritual energy for thousands of years before the Abrahamic religions emerged. A power source that is still with us, because energy cannot be created or destroyed.
The Neteru of Ancient Kemet were never destroyed. These cosmic intelligences are still with us to this day and netermancy provides a way of interacting with them through the power of Ptah-Tatenen. The power of divine manifestation.
You are the consciousness (Ptah) working through matter (Tatenen) to create new forms (manifestation).
This is not metaphor. This is not "just symbolic."
If consciousness is fundamental to reality (as ancient Kemetic priests believed and modern philosophers increasingly suggest), then you are a localized expression of the same divine intelligence that Ptah represents.
And your body, your bones, your physical existence? That's Tatenen. You are made of earth—minerals, calcium, trace elements from primordial stone.
When you invoke Ptah-Tatenen, you're not calling something external. You're remembering what you already are:
Thought and stone. Mind and matter. Consciousness and form. United.
The Manifestation Code
The ancient priests of Kemet knew something that we've forgotten. They knew that manifestation isn't about "attracting" things from outside yourself. It's about densifying consciousness into form. Turning immaterial thought into matter. A process that would later be labeled mental alchemy in books like The Kybalion.
“All is mind, the Universe is mental.” - The Kybalion
All is Ptah, the Universe is a manifestation of Ptah Consciousness when spoken. Neteru consciousness of the highest order and purest divine domain.
Here's the code:
Stage 1: CONCEPTION (Ptah's Heart)
Form clear intention
Visualize the outcome
Feel it as already real in consciousness
This is pure Ptah work—thought, vision, idea
Forming a clear intention may require time. Your intention may need to be molded and shaped in the primordial waters of Nun before it emerges into physical reality. It is important to remove all distractions and enter into a daily trance-like state. There are a variety of ways to do this. This is the stage of active imagination and meditative practice.
Stage 2: UTTERANCE (Ptah's Tongue)
Speak your intention aloud
Name what you're creating
Use sound to vibrate the thought-form
This bridges consciousness (thought) and matter (vibration/sound)
Much like Ptah’s creation of the physical world through frequency and sound vibration, so too much you speak your intention through vocalization. It’s not purely a mental process. The act of speaking with divine intent is an act of magic.
Stage 3: GROUNDING (Tatenen's Body)
Take physical action aligned with intention
Engage with matter (write it down, create something tangible, move your body)
Connect to earth (literally—walk barefoot, touch stone, feel gravity)
This anchors the thought in substance
This is the stage that represents using the Netermancy stones of power as part of the actual divination process. This will be elaborated on over time, but know that casting the stones of power is itself a grounding step. It’s symbolic of engaging with the Earth element, of which Tatenen is associated with and taking physical action.
Stage 4: PATIENCE (Tatenen's Stability)
Allow time for densification
Trust the process (mountains don't form overnight)
Maintain steady focus without desperate grasping
This is Tatenen's gift—stability, endurance, foundation
As part of the practice of netermancy, you will receive a mantra after interpreting the results in a reading. This is a complex process in itself that will be explained in due time. All secrets of netermancy will be revealed. This mantra can be uttered throughout the day, written down, meditated on, incorporated into other spiritual practices. It is up to you. Netermancy is not a rigid system and allows for cross-disciplinary usage.
Stage 5: EMERGENCE (Ptah-Tatenen United)
The manifestation appears
Thought has become form
Vision has become matter
Consciousness and substance are revealed as one
The last step in the process. The emergence of Tatenen from the waters of Nun. Potential becoming actualized reality. The end goal of manifestation.
Most manifestation teachings focus only on Stage 1 (visualize!) or Stage 3 (take action!).
Ptah-Tatenen empowers the COMPLETE CYCLE through the casting of The Neteru Stones as an act of Netermancy.
You can't skip steps. You can't rush. You must honor both the consciousness side (Ptah) and the matter side (Tatenen) equally.
Working With Ptah-Tatenen Directly
If you feel called to deepen your relationship with this composite deity, here are practices to begin:
Daily Grounding Ritual:
Every morning, before you start your day:
Stand barefoot on the ground (or floor if necessary)
Close your eyes
Speak: "Ptah-Tatenen, I stand on your body. I AM your body. Thought and stone, united in me."
Visualize roots growing from your feet deep into the earth
Feel the solidity, the ancient stability of stone
Hold this for 60 seconds
Speak: "I am grounded. I am ready to create."
This practice:
Connects you to Tatenen's substrate
Activates Ptah's creative consciousness through your awareness
Prepares you to manifest with both thought and matter
Stone Meditation:
Once a week (or whenever you feel scattered):
Find a stone (raw, uncarved—could be from nature or a crystal)
Hold it in your hands
Feel its weight, texture, temperature
Speak: "Tatenen, I hold your body. Teach me stability."
Sit in silence for 5-10 minutes, focusing only on the stone
Notice thoughts arising (Ptah) and returning to the stone (Tatenen)
When done, speak: "Thank you for your teaching."
This practice:
Trains you to work with matter consciously
Develops sensitivity to stone as conscious substance
Balances over-active mind with grounding presence
Manifestation Working (Advanced):
When you have a specific goal you want to manifest:
Ptah Phase: Write your goal clearly. Visualize it fully formed. Feel it as real.
Utterance Phase: Speak it aloud 9 times. Use clear, declarative language: "I am [creating/manifesting/becoming]..."
Tatenen Phase: Find a stone that represents this goal. Hold it daily for 30 seconds while speaking your declaration.
Integration Phase: Place the stone somewhere you'll see it daily. Each time you see it, remember: "My thought is becoming form. Ptah-Tatenen is working through me."
Action Phase: Take at least one physical action per week toward the goal. Each time, touch the stone first and speak: "Thought becomes stone. Stone becomes reality."
Continue for 40 days (a traditional period for transformation).
This practice:
Engages both consciousness and matter
Uses stone as anchor point
Trains you in the complete Ptah-Tatenen process
The Primordial Mountain Within You
Here's the deepest teaching:
Tatenen is called "the primordial mound"—the first solid land that rose from chaotic waters.
You are that mound.
Think about it:
You emerged from the waters of the womb (Nun)
You solidified from liquid into flesh and bone
You ROSE into conscious existence
You are the ground upon which YOUR life is built
Ptah-Tatenen isn't "out there." He's not a distant god you worship. He is the pattern of manifestation itself—and that pattern runs through you.
Your consciousness (Ptah) inhabits a body of earth (Tatenen). Every thought you have is Ptah thinking through you. Every bone in your body is Tatenen holding you solid. When you manifest effectively, you're not "using" Ptah-Tatenen's power. You are Ptah-Tatenen, localized as a human being, doing what he does: turning thought into form.
The primordial mountain isn't in Egypt. It's not in Memphis. It's not in ancient history.
The primordial mountain is YOUR SPINE.
Feel it right now. Your vertebrae, stacked like stones. Your skeleton, the mountain of your body. Your consciousness, dwelling within this mountain of bone.
You are the risen earth. You are the divine thought made flesh.
You are Ptah-Tatenen.
And when you know this—not just intellectually, but in your bones, in your being—
Your power to manifest becomes as natural as breathing. Then, you're not trying to do something foreign to your nature. You're simply doing what you are: consciousness creating through matter, thought becoming stone, vision taking form.
An Invitation
This is the beginning, not the end.
Understanding Ptah-Tatenen intellectually is valuable. Experiencing him in practice is transformative.
If this teaching resonates with you, I invite you to:
Subscribe to the newsletter.
Begin the daily grounding ritual (even 60 seconds makes a difference)
Work with stones consciously (not as inert objects, but as living earth)
Notice when you're "all Ptah" (lost in thought, ungrounded) or "all Tatenen" (mindless action, no vision)
Practice integration: bringing mind and matter into conscious partnership
And if you're called to go deeper...
I'm developing a complete system of working with the Neteru—Egyptian divine forces—through a practice called Netermancy. It's active divination using hand-crafted stones to reveal which gods are available to you, then building personalized mantras to invoke them.
Ptah-Tatenen is the foundation of this practice. Every stone is his body. Every reading speaks through him. Every practitioner stands on the primordial mound he provides.
I'll be sharing more about Netermancy in future posts, including:
How to cast stones and read divine patterns
Building mantras (words of power) from your readings
Working with composite deities (like Ptah-Tatenen) in daily practice
The complete pantheon of accessible Kemetic forces
For now, know this:
You are not separate from the gods. You are divine intelligence expressing itself through earthly form.
You are Ptah-Tatenen.
The primordial mountain rises within you.
And from that mountain, you can create worlds.
Dua Neteru (Honor to the gods)
Ankh, Udja, Seneb (Life, Prosperity, Health)
P.S. - A Question for Reflection:
Where in your life are you "all Ptah" (endless planning, visualizing, thinking—but no grounded action)?
Where are you "all Tatenen" (busy doing, moving, working—but with no clear vision guiding you)?
What would change if you integrated both?
Drop your thoughts in the comments. I read and respond to every one.
